Anneke de Graaf

About

Hi, I’m Anneke, director, animation supervisor and animator from the Netherlands.

To me, human behaviour is a core element of strong character animation. I enjoy developing characters that feel distinct and alive within the stories they inhabit. Exploring, dissecting and creating interactions that feel true within stories, I feel are essential to my storytelling style.

I have worked for animation studios in the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark, mainly on 2D animated feature films and series.

Submarine

Anneke has been part of the Submarine family for many years and has taken the directing helm on many episodes of our TV series’ Wellie Wishers and Knofje. She is a mainstay in our senior teams for 2D features as well, animation supervising on films Where is Anne FrankLittle Charlie and They Shot the Piano Player. She is a natural leader with a great sense of humour and a sensitive, cute directing sensibility. Currently she is directing our new 2D series Little Charlie.

Il Luster

Anneke worked on several of our animation productions. She has proven herself to be a hard and dedicated worker. For many good reasons she has moved up in the 'ranks' of the animation team very fast from 'junior' to animator to lead animator. She is the kind of lead animator that can truly lead the way for others. Not just technically and as an intermediate for the producers but also socially.

By removing enough detailed movements we were able to create animation that isn't as “floaty” as you normally see at rotoscoped films. We retained a strong reference for the animators while preserving the freedom of adding and removing movements like in traditional animation.
